How long does the flu shot last for?

Page last updated 24 May 2018

The length of protection provided by the flu vaccine varies from year to year – depending on the strains of influenza that are circulating in the community. In some people, protection lasts the entire flu season, but for others it can start to wear off after three to four months. That’s why it’s so important to discuss with your healthcare professional the best time for you and your family to get vaccinated.
