National Immunisaton Schedule

Australia's rate of immunisation is steadily increasing following the implementation of the Australian Government funded National Immunisation Program (NIP) which began in 1997. The NIP Schedule currently includes vaccines against a total of 16 diseases and provides vaccination funding for:

  • Children
  • Adolescents
  • At-risks groups
  • The elderly

Please see below for a complete schedule and listing of vaccines covered by the NIP, or visit the Immunise Australia Program website.

Who is eligible to receive a free vaccine under the NIP?

  • Holds a Medicare card or eligible to hold a Medicare card and all asylum seekers (if a person attends without their Medicare card, vaccines can still be administered).
  • Holds Australian citizenship.
  • Holds a permanent visa or has applied for a permanent visa.
